"Sois Jeune et Tais Toi"

"Sois Jeune et Tais-toi " (Be Young and Shut Up) is a poster designed as part of the student protests that swept France in 1968.

The poster depicts the very recognizable to the French people, silouhette of the Général De Gaulle, then president of France, putting his hand over a young boy's mouth.

The poster is part of a series of about 76 posters designed by students from the  École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris who, after a vote, started occupying the school on May 16, 1968 as part of the broader protest against the current government.

The students united as an  autonomous and anonymous collective under the name Atelier Populaire (The People's Workshop/Popular Workshop) to produce posters that would "give concrete support to the great movement of the workers on strike who are occupying their factories in defiance of the Gaullist government".  As a radical left wing movement, to reject bourgeois notions of individual artistic authorship and prevent police targeting posters were distributed for free, without personal credits.
